Description

St. Spyridon of Trimythous (c. AD 270–348), honoured as Wonderworker (Θαυματουργός), was born in Cyprus and initially lived as a shepherd, husband and father. Known for generosity towards the poor and hospitality towards strangers, he continued this simple way of life after becoming a Bishop. God granted him gifts of healing, discernment and wonderworking, yet he remained unpretentious and personally attentive to the needs of his flock.

St. Spyridon participated in the First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea in 325, where Holy Tradition associates him with a simple demonstration of the Trinity using a brick: fire rose, water fell and earth remained, while the brick was one. He is readily recognised in icons by his distinctive woven shepherd’s cap, which expresses his humble origins and pastoral character.
