Description
The icon depicts Christ calming the storm — which we can read in Matthew 8:23–27; Mark 4:35–41; and Luke 8:22–25 — Jesus appears twice to show successive moments. On the right, Christ is seen sleeping whilst the storm rages and the disciples are panicking in fear for their lives, and on the left we see Christ holding out His hand and commanding the waters and wind to be still. The two appearances do not show separate Christs, rather different moments in the narrative which allow us to perceive both His divine and human natures.
