Description

St. Andrew the First-Called (Πρωτόκλητος) lived during the first century AD and was traditionally martyred around AD 60. He was a fisherman from Bethsaida and the brother of St. Peter. Initially a disciple of St. John the Baptist, Andrew followed Christ after hearing John identify Him as the Lamb of God. He then brought Peter to the Lord, becoming the first of the Apostles to be called and one who immediately shared what he had discovered.

After Pentecost, Andrew carried the Gospel through regions associated by Tradition with Asia Minor, Thrace, the Black Sea and Greece. He was eventually crucified at Patras, where he continued teaching those assembled around him until his death.
